Getting Started

Octave Tuner uses your device microphone to detect pitch in real time and help you tune your instrument accurately.

  • Open the app and allow microphone access when prompted.
  • Play one string at a time in a quiet environment.
  • Hold your instrument reasonably close to the device microphone.
  • Use the reference pitch and tuning settings to match your setup.

Microphone Permission Help

If the tuner is not responding, the most common cause is microphone access being denied or restricted.

  1. Open the iPhone or iPad Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Octave Tuner.
  3. Make sure Microphone access is enabled.
  4. Return to the app and try again with a single sustained note.

Troubleshooting

No pitch is detected

Try moving to a quieter room, playing one string at a time, and bringing the instrument slightly closer to your device.

The detected note jumps around

Background noise, sympathetic string vibration, or plucking multiple strings can make pitch detection less stable.

The tuner seems offset

Check whether the reference pitch is set away from A4 = 440 Hz or whether a custom tuning or capo setting is active.

Data & Settings

Octave Tuner stores settings and any custom tuning data locally on your device.

  • Deleting the app removes locally stored app data from your device.
  • No account is required to use Octave Tuner.
  • No cloud sync is currently used.
